North American Luna Moth

Actias luna

Habitat:

Found in my workshop at night. On the edge of a mixed forest.

Notes:

Started flying around erratically when I turned on the light. Took awhile for it to calm down enough for me to get a picture.

Thanks Brian. I went to Akito Kawahara's lecture last year here in Tallahassee. Sponsored by the Tallahassee Scientific Society. The research they are doing on butterflies and moths was impressive. The Butterfly Rainforest exhibit in Gainesville, Florida is worth a visit if any PN members visit Florida. https://www.floridamuseum.ufl.edu/exhibi...

The Carolina Wrens they used in their research are abundant in our yard. They seem to b e breeding year round here now. They must consume an incredible amount of insects and spiders .
