Green-winged teal

Anas carolinensis

Description:

This male green-winged teal was hanging out with a group of mallard ducks, some of whom were feeling very frisky. He was quite calm and his female companion was reticent to show herself. At the North Carolina coast, we can see them in large groups during the winter migration. This day, there seemed to be only one couple who stopped off at an urban pond.

Habitat:

City nature reserve
