Western Lowland Gorilla

Gorilla gorilla gorilla

Description:

The Western Lowland Gorilla is the smallest of the gorillas & the one most likely to be found in zoos. Its diet consists mainly of plants with some insects & repiles (small) thrown in. These gorillas live in groups with possibly overlapping ranges. This does not cause territorial disputes. Spotted in Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Habitat:

Lowland tropical forest; swamp forest. Terrestrial. Native to Cameroon.

Notes:

The EOL lists as CR; Wikipedia lists as VU. This is a wide variation. My GUESS is the the CR rating comes from a combined Western Gorilla rating (G. g. gorilla and G. g. diehli - the Cross River Gorilla). Primate Info Net http://pin.primate.wisc.edu/factsheets/e...
