When to see January to December One of our most familiar mammals seen across the UK , the Eastern grey squirrel can be found many habitats across the UK in woodlands, gardens and parks. It is a frequent visitor to many gardens with bird tables and feeders as an easy source of food for the Squirrels. This can make them pest for many bird-lovers. Grey squirrels main food though are Acorns, Pine Cones & hazelnuts. If you find pine cones that have been nibbled, leaving what looks like an apple core behind its more than likely left overs from a Gray Squirrels Meal. Grey squirrels make a nest called a 'drey' out of twigs, strips of bark & leaves in the fork of a branch, high up in the tree Tops. Females can have up to two litters per year of babies called kits or kittens and are born blind With Two,.three or four young a year.
