Description:

A large water bird that often swims for its prey which is mostly fish. Its long dart-like bill can stab fish. It has webbed feet (seen in pic 5). Its feathers are not waterproof so it's often seen preening and drying its feathers out.

Habitat:

Spotted at the Black Bayou Lake NWR in Louisiana.
