Turdus philomelos clarkei
These beautiful song birds were originally introduced and have since claimed the naturalised conservation status. They have pale cream underparts speckled with fawn-brown chevrons. The head, back and upper wings and tail are smooth grey-brown with indistinct streaking on the head.
Cruising around on the grassed area between walking tracks at the Botanic Gardens.
There was only one of these birds in that area and it was in the same location as some Chaffinches (Fringilla coelebs gengleri), with a couple of Tui (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae novaeseelandiae) flying around. Here is some interesting reading: https://www.nzbirds.com/birds/thrush.htm...
