Red-eyed Treefrog

Agalychnis callidryas

Description:

A nocturnal and arboreal frog from the neotropics, found from mexico to Colombia, males are relatively small about 6 cm long and females about 9 cm long. this is probably the most photographed frog in the world because of it multiple colors, it is considered common, and easy to find especially after the rain. Reproductive behavior implies that a male emits a single note clocking from trees or vegetation over temporary ponds. A female approaches a male, apparently chosen previously, and they execute an amplexo in which the female carries the male on her back. After this she descends to the pond and it is evident that she fills her bladder by absorption through the skin. The couple returns to the vegetation and the female selects a leaf, where she deposits the eggs and the male fertilizes them. The nests vary in size, between 29 and 42 eggs. The female, with the male still in tow, returns to the pond, refills the bladder and repeats the process. (inbio)

“Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated”
