Plataspid Bug

Unidentified Plataspidae

Description:

This bug appears from time-to-time, in great numbers, on our Pigeon Pea and Hyacinth Bean plants. I used to identify it as Coptosoma variegatum, but this was based on information provided by a website which no longer exists. While trying to find another source of information, to confirm the identification, I came across https://journalarticle.ukm.my/15602/1/33....... This is a short (8 pages) scientific paper which shows Pictures of C. variegatum and it looks nothing like the Plataspid bug in my photos. So, I have decided it is safer to call this bug Unidentified Plataspidae until I can find a reliable reference. Wikipedia's article on Plataspidae is very short and does not provide any clues as to the ID of my bugs, but it does show a daunting list of Genera.

Habitat:

This bug was spotted in our front garden on a Pigeon Pea Plant (Cajanus cajan) known in this part of the Philippines as Kardis. Plant information - http://www.stuartxchange.org/Kadios.html......
