Dark Cerulean

Jamides bochus

Description:

Small butterfly of around 30mm wingspan. Spotted here is a female, identified as it was busy laying eggs on flower buds of long beans, Vigna unguiculata. Cerulean, sky blue, refers to the color of the upper side of its wings. There are several species of ceruleans found in Sri Lanka. Dark Cerulean is distinguishable by the darker color on the underside of its wings and the more deeper '>' shape towards the bottom of its hind wing.

Habitat:

Spotted at my home garden. Suburban residential area. It has a kind of fast flight and the blue color of its wings can be noticed during the flight.
